DEATH ROW GRANDMOTHER EXECUTED

A 62 year old great-grandmother in the United States has been executed in a Texas prison.
Betty Lou Beets was killed by lethal injection after being convicted of murdering her fifth husband.
Her final avenue of reprieve failed when Texas Governor George W Bush declined to intervene.
On Thursday, ACSJC Chair Bishop Kevin Manning, appealed to  Governor Bush to spare her life.
He said: "While doubt exists about the adequacy of Betty's representation at trial it would be wrong to proceed with the death sentence."
Bishop Manning suggested that to end a lifetime of abuse and suffering with an act of State authorised violence could only contribute to a lack of respect for the sanctity of human life.
